Chapter Eleven

Walking back into the clubhouse after delivering the escapee, I stop by Poseidon’s office. We don’t have a separate location for our security and private investigation business, per se, since typically, our clients find us by word of mouth. Most of the jobs we take on are bounty hunting, tracking down bail jumpers, since, for whatever reason, folks think running when they’re facing prison time is a good idea.

“Here ya go,” I say, handing Poseidon the check I received from the bail bondsman who hired us. While they typically do their own skip traces, in this instance, they had several jobs already, so they hired out. Doesn’t hurt our bottom line one bit, which is why we took the job.

He looks down at the check then glances back at me, grinning. “Nice chunk of change for a few days’ work, brother.”

“Yeah, that’s true. Even taking out the minimal expenses, we still made bank on this one for sure. Orion back yet?” I ask.

“Not yet. His is proving to be a bit more slippery than yours was, according to Specks. He’s basically gone off the grid, isn’t using any of his cards, so he doesn’t have any kind of digital footprint for us to follow.”

Chuckling, I reply, “That’s gotta piss him off, huh?”

“He was definitely using some choice words when he called in with a status report.”

“Anything else outstanding?”

“Naw, brother, go take a load off.”

“Definitely.” My mind is on a hot shower then some shuteye in my own damn bed. For the past few days, I’ve spent hours at night texting with Hayley in order for us to get to know each other a little bit better, which has cut into my sleep. I’ll never complain, however, because seeing her when we’ve switched over to FaceTime has fueled my fantasies. Grinning, I pick up my duffle bag that I dropped on the floor when I walked in, give him a chin lift then head up to my room.
